Every language is unique and complex in its own way. Expressions, idioms, or plays on words sometimes can not be translated literally, and equivalents have to be found. That’s why our professional translators don’t just translate words, they localise them. Transcribing words into another language without altering the intended message can be tricky. Many factors other than the language itself have to be considered, such as cultural differences.
When translating websites or marketing materials for example, it is essential to know about the target language’s characteristics, the culture that comes with it as well as marketing techniques and concepts. Word-for-word translations are just not enough and not appropriate for these kinds of materials.
Our professional Chichewa translators therefore make sure to take all of these aspects into account when doing their job to make it as reliable and accurate as possible.
Translating professional documents requires a certain knowledge of the related area and industry. Being aware of specific notions, technical terms and procedures is essential to provide a correct translation.
Legal translations for example imply knowing about legal terms as well the laws that apply in the countries involved in the translation. For medical translations, being careful with specific terms and paying attention to norms is just as vital. In such areas, professional translators just can’t afford to make any mistakes.
For every sector we cover, we make sure to have professional native translators that have sector-specific knowledge and experience and that are able to translate related materials appropriately. This way, the quality of the work is guaranteed.
Facts about the Chichewa language
Chichewa, also called Chewa or Nyanja, is mainly spoken in Malawi, Zambia, Mozambique and Zimbabwe (South Central African countries).
It belongs to the Bantu family of languages, which is a group of African languages that comprises more than 400 languages spoken in around 20 different African countries.
It is the national language of Malawi, where two thirds of the population use it. However, the official language of Malawi is English, although only one fifth of the population can speak it.
There are around 10 million Chichewa speakers, mainly in the countries where Chew ethnic groups are significantly present.
The Chewa people are the largest ethnic group in Malawi and are also present in other regions of South Central Africa. They are considered to belong to the Nyanja group of Bantu. The number of members of the Chewa people is currently estimated at 1.5 million people.
